The client wanted an outdoor entertaining area that would mask an
unpleasant view to the rear of his newly purchased home on Catawba Island.
A variance was needed to construct this covered patio with a fireplace
designed to block the view. The finished roof makes it appear as though this
outdoor room was there all along. Furnishings make the space inviting and
include a built in stainless grill and ceiling fan. The fireplace with tall wing walls
and evergreen tree border accomplish the goal of blocking the view to the
mobile home park behind the property.

The client requested a gas fireplace for their new patio.  This is a side view of the
fireplace at the outside corner of the new patio. Located on a golf course
many golfers stop their cart to admire the patio, fireplace and landscape. The
fireplace is the focal point of the patio and provides a way to extend the
season, without blocking the view to the golf course. This fireplace includes a
gas starter, elegant light fixtures, a limestone mantel and wood storage areas.

The client requested a patio design for an empty, unused area below an
existing deck. Low landscaping borders the new patio, softening the hard
edges and framing the views to the lake.  Stained cedar lattice trellises
camouflage the deck posts and accommodate mandevillea vines. The design
includes Unilock Umbriano Pavers and raised planters. The entertaining space is
separated from the garden potting bench by a charming bright green
divider. An existing gravel walkway became the perfect area for a wood
burning fire pit and built in stone benches.
